As a conceited scholar of the Ming Dynasty, Wei Yangsheng believes that since life is short, one should pursue the ultimate sexual pleasure as time allows. Wei Yangsheng encounters Tie Fei the Taoist priest’s daughter, Tie Yuxiang, on an occasion. With the former’s talent and the latter’s beauty, they fall in love at first sight, and Wei Yangsheng is later married into the Tie’s family. Yuxiang is elegant and courteous under the influence of her father’s faith, though her lack of passion cannot fully satisfy Wei Yangsheng’s sexual needs. His disappointment is no less than his affection for her.
I actually doubt that this will make much money but I have just read that this is quite successful in Hong Kong. I guess that is due to the novelty of 3D erotic movies. In Hong Kong, the only other 3D erotic movie is Natali. So people will want more 3D erotic movies. Just recently, Malaysia decides to follow the making of a 3D erotic movie. Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is a remake or a follow-up of the Chinese classic.
The story: To tell the truth, it is not as sensual as it is supposed to be. Yes, there are loads of sex and graphic nudity. But the sex scenes are not specially crafted; most of them just feature the same positions and to the further extend, I even felt a little bored and hoping the director could come up with something more special and erotic. This means that the sex scenes are nothing special and they can be seen in other erotic movies. The erotic movie then somehow changes into a crude and gory movie?! Those who dislike the penis scene in Piranha 3D will be offended by this. This features more penis scenes. The last 45 minutes take drastic turn and become like a cruel revenge movie which surprised me a bit. Why the heck is an erotic movie becoming something like a torture porn? There is gore and people crying for mercy and a little action. At the end of the movie, I was thinking: “What the heck did I just watched? The director tried to mix different genres into one movie, he felt that sex is not enough for this?”
Overall: It is okay to watch it on a morning in HK which the ticket price is lower. I would not actually want to pay a full price for it. The 3D is not bad but it is kind of boring as it just adds an extra dimension to the sex and some gimmick scenes. Nothing that I have not seen before. Believe it or not, there will be more 3D erotic movies and I hope they can be kind of better than previous 3D erotic movies.
